For Top Performance...

  1. Sleep
  2. Stay in a well-ventilated room away from draughts and sudden temperature changes
  3. Warmth- wear a scarf when exposed to sudden temperature changes
  4. Fluids - drink! Avoid ice-cold or carbonated drinks.
  5. Steaming- Ten-minute steaming, twice a day, when using your voice alot, if voice is tired or you have a cold.
  6. Diet- eat foods with a high water content. Avoid eating dairy products; they induce phlegm.
  7. Throat Lozenges- used when singing voice is out of use, resting or not about to sing.
  8. Remedy Drink- when your voice is tired make a drink containing: 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of lemon, couple slices of fresh ginger, mixed together in hot water. This cuts through phlegm (lemon), acts as a natural inflammatory (ginger), taking down any swelling.
  9. Warm-Up-start with humming, take things slow and gradual.
  • Humidifier- moisturizes the air
  • Room Temperature water is best
  • To loosen phlegm, use a teaspoon of Friars Balsam in one pint of hot water
  • Eat fresh fruit and vegetables
